In the Watermelon’s Own Words

The watermelon hoax is coming apart at the seams. The green-on-the-outside, red on-the-inside “religion” disguising itself as climate science is losing its grip in both the real world and the world of information.

Solar companies are going bankrupt faster than Kim Kardashian can get divorced, scandals and kickbacks are obvious to those who will look, windmills are proving to actually require more hydrocarbon energy rather than less, ethanol is still a disaster, and the Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf have combined to sell a total of less than 10,000 vehicles (most of those to the government). Those 6000 or so who do own a Chevy Volt are being reassured by GM (Government Motors) that they will buy back their electric Edsels should they wish to sell them back due to risk of FIRE. And last week, Canadian Environment Minister Peter Kent told reporters “Kyoto is the past,”  describing the decision by Canada’s previous Liberal government to sign on to the protocol as “one of the biggest blunders they made.”

And now, as the Durban conference on climate is holding their annual meeting of the minds, a new release of internal e-mails from the climate alarmist clique is opening even more eyes to the greatest hoax in the history of mankind. There is really not much need to comment, so below are just a few of the quotes directly from the mouths of the creators (and defenders) of the now debunked “hockey stick” temperature graph. Remember, these are the so-called “scientists” cited as the experts whose predictions on the coming disaster of global warming cannot be questioned…

From Michael Mann, the king of global warming: “I pointed out to him that we certainly don’t know the GLOBAL mean temperature anomaly very well, and nobody has ever claimed we do (this is the question he asked everyone). There is very little information at all in the Southern Hemisphere on which to base any conclusion.”

From Keith Briffa: “I believe that the recent warmth was probably matched about 1000 years ago…”

From Tom Wigley to Keith Briffa: “Why don’t you give these people the raw data? Are you hiding something — your apparent refusal to be forthcoming sure makes it look as though you are.”

From Thomas Crowley: “I am not convinced that the “truth” is always worth reaching if it is at the cost of damaged personal relationships.”

Tom Wigley again: “Quantifying climate sensitivity from real world data cannot even be done using present-day data, including satellite data.”

From Wigley to Mann:  “Mike, The Figure you sent is very deceptive […] there have been a number of dishonest presentations of model results by individual authors and by IPCC…”

From Jagadesh Shukla: “It is inconceivable that policymakers will be willing to make billion-and trillion-dollar decisions for adaptation to the projected regional climate change based on models that do not even describe and simulate the processes that are the building blocks of climate variability.”

Phil Jones, referring to Michael Mann: “Mike did pad his data a little at the ends and beginning to get common periods, but only by a maximum of 10 years.”

From Trevor Davies regarding an “alliance” with Goldman-Sachs:“We (Mike H) have done a modest amount of work on degree-days for G-S. They now want to extend this. They are involved in dealing in the developing energy futures market. G-S is the sort of company that we might be looking for a ‘strategic alliance’ with.”

Strategic alliances in the energy futures market? Deceptive presentations? The truth is not worth reaching? Padded data? Can’t make a conclusion on the Southern Hemisphere? Models do not describe climate variability? It’s over folks. The watermelon is in the road.

The Great and Miraculous Obama

In a period of seven short days the master magician Barack Obama has done it again. A major disappearing act, one of his best as commander-in-chief of the War on Prosperity, has netted a loss of 221,000 jobs.

Last Friday it was announced that the Keystone Pipeline project would be “delayed” until after the election with a corresponding loss of 20,000 jobs in the short-term. Translation: Politics trumps the economy. He needs the environmentalists for this election cycle and, if he happens to win, this project is dead and the pipeline will be rerouted to serve the Chinese.

Last Friday it was also announced that Stryker Industries was laying off 5% of its workforce (approximately 1000 people). Why, you might ask? Stryker’s press release said they “will cut 5% of its global workforce by the end of next year to reduce costs in the face of new fees on device makers required by the U.S. health care law.”

And today it was announced that the auction for mineral leases for the Wayne National Forest  will also be “delayed.” Same translation as above. Several hundred immediate and an estimated 200,000 long-term jobs hang in the balance.

221,000 jobs. One week.

When we sum up this past week along with just one of the President’s other actions we come up with a shocking number. In July the House Committee on Oversight released a report stating that the unofficial closure of the Gulf of Mexico to drilling and exploration has resulted in the loss of 230,000 more jobs.

Total: 451,000 jobs lost.

As bad as this is, it does not even speak to the loss of $9 billion in capital investment (equipment). Do you think maybe our economy could benefit from someone spending $9 billion on equipment? Nor does it speak to the loss of $25 billion in royalty and tax revenues to the government. Isn’t there some kind of “supercommittee” in Washington searching high and low to find “revenues” to address the debt crisis?

These are actions of the President that he cannot say were “necessary because of the mess he inherited.” The closed for business sign hanging in the Gulf of Mexico belongs to him as does the albatross of Obamacare.

Umm…I…Uh…Well…I…Uh…..

Let’s just all agree that we have had a few of those times in our lives when a familiar name, a fact, or for that matter, the reason we walked into a particular room just totally escaped us. Brain lock, senior moment, call it whatever you like we’ve all had them. Unfortunately for him, Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry had one of those moments on national TV in a presidential debate. The pundits, comedians, and the press are jumping all over this in full force.

According to them “his campaign is over.” “He’s not a serious candidate.” No one from Texas could possibly be intelligent. Regardless of the likelihood of his getting the Republican nomination, I would like to offer 10 possible replies for Mr. Perry for future questions regarding his “brain cramp:”

“Yes, I definitely could not remember the third government program I wanted to cut however….

1. “…..I never claimed to have visited 57 states.”

2. “….I never tried to walk into the White House through a window, thinking it was a door.”

3. “….I never referred to a posthumous Medal of Honor winner as still alive.”

4. “….I never wondered at a press conference what the “Austrian” word is for “wheeling and dealing.” (There is no “Austrian” language).”

5. “….I never said “10,000 people died and a town was destroyed” by a tornado when there were actually a total of 12 fatalities.”

6. “….I never said on national TV that I bowled like I was in the “Special Olympics.”

7. “….I never signed the guest book at Westminster Abbey as “May 24, 2008″ when it was actually 2011.”

8. “….I never gave the Queen of a foreign country a set of 25 unusable DVD’s as a gift.”

9. … I never pronounced the word “corpsman” as corpse-man (with the “p”).”

10. “….I do not require two teleprompters to speak to a roomful of grade school children for ten minutes (not a joke).”

One or two of these responses would surely liven up an interview on one of the government media outlets, don’t ya’ think?

Redistribution of Wet

Here’s a simple little illustration of the folly of Keynesian government spending (stimulus). You need three items; two large pots and a cup made of styrofoam or paper.

First, fill the two pots about halfway up with water, place them 2′-3′ apart on a counter top, and designate one pot “P” and the other pot “G”.

Next, poke two small holes in the bottom of the cup.

Now, using the cup, take some of water from pot “P” and transfer it to pot “G.” A small amount of water will leak onto the counter. This is normal. Do this several times.

Now, ask yourself a simple question. Is the total amount of water now in both pots more, less, or the same? It is obvious that the total amount of water cannot be increased in this way.

In this demonstration, pot “P” represents the private sector, pot “G” represents the government sector, the cup represents the government, and the holes represent the amount of government spending. The water is our economy. The act of transferring the water represents the government taking money from the private sector (taxes), administering the transfer (the leaks), and giving that money to government agencies (pot “G”).

Keynesian spending only puts more holes in the cup and increases the number of transfers from pot to pot. The result? More water on the counter (unproductive spending and waste). It should be no surprise that Stimulus I failed. Stimulus II (the supposed “Jobs Act”) would fail if passed and the green economy spending has been a total disaster with billions (that’s right, billions with a “b”) wasted on crony bankruptcies and technologies with no future. Why has all of this flailing produced no jobs? More holes in the cup produce nothing.

How then, could you ever raise the total amount of water in the pots? Simple. Put the pots outside, stay out of the way, and just let it rain (American business productivity).

Oh, by the way, a new cup with fewer holes would be helpful.

OK CLASS, Repeat After Me….. R-E-P-E-A-L

Just last week Kathleen Sebelius, the Secretary of Health and Human Services (and final arbiter of all of your health care decisions) announced that the CLASS Act would not be implemented. The CLASS (Community Living Assistance Services and Support) Act was supposedly to provide long-term care for the disabled.

In a Friday afternoon news “dump” (designed for you to miss it over the weekend), Sebelius said, “Despite our best analytical efforts I do not see a viable path forward for Class implementation at this time.” In other words, it won’t work. Not that this is a surprise to them; it was never meant to work. The plan was based on collecting “voluntary” premiums for 5 years from the elderly with no benefits provided until the 6th year. Can you guess how many people signed up?

Here’s something about that story you will not hear on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, the New York Times, or any of the other government mouthpieces…. The CLASS Act was scored by the CBO as 40% of the savings attributed to the cost of Obamacare. The cost of Obamacare has gone up again from what was originally shoved down the taxpayers’ throat. The CBO says that, without these savings (which were never real in the first place), the cost just went up by another $53.6 billion.

This plan was never intended to be implemented. They knew it would never work. It was part of the smoke and mirrors used to make a claim that the cost of the bill was under $1 trillion and would lower health care costs.

The cost of this bill, if you include interest, is most likely approaching $2 trillion and that is without any consideration of the massive job-killing infection it is spreading throughout the economy. Oh, and those lower health care costs? Where are they?

Two Black Men and One Ugly Word

On a recent visit to my son, my wife and I met a friend of his; a fine young woman, a student of history, and a truly funny individual. She happens to be black. We shared some drink and a dinner and thoroughly enjoyed her company. We also had the good fortune to dine with her and our son a few weeks later. Again, we laughed and shared and had a wonderful time. Several weeks later my wife noticed that she posted a comment on Facebook something to the effect of “How convenient, George Bush leaves us this mess and everyone blames it on the black guy.”

This was especially unsettling, as it was coming from a genuinely nice person with an education in history. The implication was that those laying blame on President Obama are doing it for no other reason than he happens to be a black man. She was voicing what seems to be a fairly common assertion among supporters of the President. It is time to put this notion to bed.

Without detailing them here, there are dozens of policy reasons why Barack Obama has sent the country into a death spiral. Even if you accept the premise that he inherited a mess, which this author does not (see: https://chronicleofchange.com/?p=380 ), President Obama has taken exactly the opposite course of what history has told us would be successful. The results have been exactly what should have been foreseen. All of these choices, their corresponding results, and the public reaction to them had nothing to do with his skin color.

It is so often repeated now by liberals that the Tea Party is racist that it seems whenever a liberal speaks of the Tea Party they almost always preface it with the word “racist.” This is nonsense. The Tea Party is not a political party, it has no headquarters, no leaders, and no membership. The Tea Parties were events. They were protests based on a few simple ideas; stop the runaway spending, stop government-run healthcare, stop the bailouts, and balance the budget. Having attended a few of these and seen hundreds, maybe a few thousand participants I can tell you first-hand that I never once witnessed anything that could have even been stretched into anything resembling anything racist. There were lots of flags, lots of copies of the Constitution, and lots of issue-oriented signs. These people are worried about their own government eating the country from within. Their fears are enough to bring out literally millions of people across the country who have never before been politically active in their entire lives. This phenomenon has nothing to do with the skin color of the current inhabitant of the White House.

Further, it appears that conservatives are, more and more, embracing the candidacy of Herman Cain. Polls show him gaining support from a wide variety of likely voters. In case you missed it, Herman Cain is black. You would think the response of the press and the media would be delight that conservatives are increasingly “color-blind” in their selection of candidates. Unfortunately, the opposite is the case.

From all quarters of the liberal press, Hollywood, and even members of Congress the attacks on Mr. Cain have begun. He is not “really” black….. He didn’t take part in the marches when he was in college….. He’s just a “plant” to hide the true racism of the Republican Party. A particularly disgusting attack took place in the form of an interview on MSNBC with Lawrence O’ Donnell which was obviously designed to bring into question Mr. Cain’s “blackness” You can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wmpBXFJLqw

I would like to suggest to Mr. Cain a response for the next time he is asked these types of questions (and, rest assured, he will be). “Although I was always sympathetic to the cause, it’s possible I didn’t make as much of a difference as I could have back then. There are many reasons why people act the way they act in their youth. I am attempting to make a difference now.  I am trying to show the world that the 2nd black Presidency can be good for the country, unlike the disaster of the first.”

The attacks on Mr. Cain reveal the greatest fears of the left. An independently thinking black man (or woman) cannot be tolerated. Any black person who steps outside of the pre-cut template liberals have designed for them must be destroyed. Black folks must never see that there is a world outside of the tiny little box that liberals have constructed for them. Herman Cain has crossed that line and you will see the consequences over the next several months. Can someone explain to me why it is “racist” to oppose President Obama’s policies but it is “not racist” to attempt to personally destroy Herman Cain, both black men?

The answer here is that none of this has anything to do with race at all. It has to do with the political left wing attempting to hide behind race to avoid the failures of their leader and to whip up the sentiments of those blacks willing to blindly follow them without questioning the real issues. The policies of this President are sinking the boat and we are all going down with it, blacks included. It’s time for a new captain.

Finally, for you young folks out there, I have to tell you that the constant use of the racism card is diluting the very meaning of the word and is dishonoring those who actually had to endure true racism. Racism is an ugly, evil, intolerable thing. Just ask someone who was there in the sixties when Martin Luther King was persuaded by the Chicago Police to turn around his intended march down Cicero Avenue because of the baseball bats and chains that awaited him and his followers. Ask someone who was there when black folks were threatened or beaten or murdered. Does using the word “racist” to describe someone opposing a President who happens to be black do those folks justice? I think not.

Let’s get real and discuss what is right for our country. We’ve got two black men to choose from (and a few others too). Let’s get down to business.

So Much Garbage, So Little Time

It seems that the absolute volume of outrageous trash generated by our government is growing by the day. It has been said that our current administration has adopted it as a strategy to throw out such a volume of government intrusion that the public cannot possibly recognize, much less combat, it all.  What is frightening is not so much that we have to deal with it but that our children and grandchildren might be forced to grow up in a world in which this is considered “normal.” We will be long gone and the stench of what our government left behind will linger for decades. Here are a few bags of trash for today.

According to the Wall Street Journal, there is a growing national trend of parents actually going to jail because they are trying to enroll their kids in better school systems.

From the article: “An African-American mother of two, Ms. Williams-Bolar last year used her father’s address to enroll her two daughters in a better public school outside of their neighborhood. After spending nine days behind bars charged with grand theft, the single mother was convicted of two felony counts. Not only did this stain her spotless record, but it threatened her ability to earn the teacher’s license she had been working on.” And this: “From California to Massachusetts, districts are hiring special investigators to follow children from school to their homes to determine their true residences and decide if they “belong” at high-achieving public schools.” And hang on to your hats for this: “Other school districts use services like VerifyResidence.com, which provides “the latest in covert video technology and digital photographic equipment to photograph, videotape, and document” children going from their house to school. School districts can enroll in the company’s rewards program, which awards anonymous tipsters $250 checks for reporting out-of-district students.” The full article here: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424053111903285704576557610352019804.html?mod=WSJ_Opinion_LEADTop

Our second bag of trash is filled with Obamacare. If you remember the “debate” over the bill just before it was rammed through, a major stumbling block was whether or not the bill would fund abortions. President Obama said he would issue an executive order so that no taxpayer money would pay for abortions and Democratic members of Congress insisted that abortions would not be covered. How’s that working out?

The Department of Health and Human Services is proposing the new regulation which would fully implement Obamacare. According to CSNS News, it includes a requirement for “preventive services” such that “all private health plans in the United States cover sterilizations and all FDA-approved contraceptives–including those that cause abortions—without charging any fees or co-pay.” While touting the new regulation at a fundraiser in St. Louis this week, President Obama had an exchange with an audience member that went like this:

Obama: “Think about what that means for families all across America.  Think about what it means for women.”

Audience member: “Birth control.”

Obama: “Absolutely. You’re stealing my line,… No longer can insurance companies discriminate against women just because you guys are the ones who have to give birth.”

Audience member: “Darn right!”

Obama: “Darn tooting,…..(laughter) they have to cover things like mammograms and contraception as preventive care, no more out-of-pocket costs.”

That sounds like a great deal. Fifty year old men have to be covered for mammograms, sterilization, and birth control whether they like it or not. A little further checking will tell you that they must be covered for psychological counseling, drug rehab, and so must their children up to 26 years old. Do you think it’s possible that you could buy cheaper coverage without all those benefits you don’t want or need? Sorry, that’s not allowed. Buy it, pay a fine, or go to jail. Oh, and by the way, part of your premium that you must pay is going toward free abortions.

Our final bag of trash comes from Charlotte, NC, the soon-to-be home of the Democratic National Convention. A small businessman selling commercial audio equipment on a busy thoroughfare in that city received a notice of zoning violation this week. The violation was for two recycling bins located outside his store. He was told that his dumpsters needed to be fully enclosed by a wall or a fence so that they could not be seen from the street. Hmmmm.

I think the timing definitely has something to do with the DNC,” said the owner. “Why hadn’t I seen this before if I’ve been in violation of some sort of city ordinance?” His business (dumpsters and all) has been there since 2007. The owner has gotten estimates to build the fence/wall ranging from $1000-$3800. Since he can’t afford that he’s getting rid of the dumpsters resulting in lost business for the recycling company and whatever environmental effects there might be from less recycling.

It turns out that this particular business is not alone. According to the local CBS News affiliate (WBTV), at least 100 businesses have received similar notifications in the last couple of months. One wonders whether the business lost by recycling companies (and others) will count as jobs “obliterated or destroyed.”

Sunday Morning Brainsnacks

Here are a few “brainsnacks” for a Sunday morning:

1. This past Wednesday scientists at the CERN particle research facility in Geneva claimed that they have found a particle traveling faster than the speed of light. If this is verified it would mean that all of Einstein’s Theory of Relativity (and almost all of modern physics) is wrong.

Here’s the full article: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/8782895/CERN-scientists-break-the-speed-of-light.html

2. A materials scientist from SINTEF, a research organization in Norway, has published a new model offering his explanation of what actually caused the collapse of the World Trade Center Towers on September 11th. His model includes explosions caused by a chemical reaction between water from the sprinkler systems and melted aluminum from the airplane fuselages.

Pretty interesting stuff: http://news.yahoo.com/twin-tower-collapse-model-could-squash-9-11-201204097.html?cache=clear

3. Quick! Think of a Brontosaurus. In your mind do you see that giant long-necked beast that was the logo for Texaco? Well, it never existed. Seems there was a mixup. Something about placing the wrong head on a skeleton from several miles away. The error was discovered and the “thunder lizard” is no longer a member of the dinosaur family.

Full article at: http://www.unmuseum.org/dinobront.htm

4. When you get on an airplane what makes you confident that the giant aluminum beast in which you are seated can get off the ground? Most of us probably remember that science-class illustration showing an airplane wing with arrows flowing over the top and under the bottom. We were told that the “Bernoulli principle” provided lift to the wing because the air flowing underneath went faster than the air going over the top. Oops. Turns out it’s a bit more complicated than that. Seems you need calculus (Newton) rather than arithmetic (Bernoulli) to explain this one.

NASA has an explanation here: http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/k-12/airplane/bernnew.html

5. And, finally, more news rocking the scientific world is coming out of the CERN collider. All that you have been taught (and much you haven’t) about atoms, electrons, protons, and all those strangely named particles are based on formulas that have assumed the existence of a particle which could never be seen. This particle, the “Higgs boson,” is often referred to as the “god particle” because it is an article of faith. The facilities at CERN were built, in large part, to be able to detect this particle and cement together our understanding of physics. Oops again. It seems that the “god particle” might not exist at all. Scientists are now 95% certain that it isn’t there. If confirmed, everything you were taught (and most of what you weren’t) about physics collapses. The standard model of particle physics is very close to becoming “flat-earth” theory.

Full article at: http://www.digitaltrends.com/cool-tech/cern-higgs-boson-god-particle-likely-does-not-exist/

These few “snacks” should tell you something about anyone even daring to utter the words “settled science” about anything.

10 Things You Should Know About Solyndra

For the last couple of weeks you may have been hearing lots of stories about the failure of Solyndra, the now bankrupt solar panel company who managed to get the government to part with $535 million of your tax dollars. You will be hearing a lot more as both the election season and the story itself unfold. There will be lots of spin but here are ten facts:

1. Although you may have already heard the administration’s spin that “the loan process actually began during the Bush administration,” the loan application was denied by the Bush Department of Energy on January 9, 2009.

2. By the company’s own records they had lost $400 million over the previous three years.

3. The company’s own internal auditors had provided an opinion that the company was not viable.

4. Energy Department emails indicated that the credit rating agency predicted that Solyndra would run out of cash in September 2011. Check your calendar.

5. There was consideration given to closing the doors in January of 2010. One staffer at OMB said in an email, “If Solyndra defaults down the road the optics will arguably be worse than they would be today,” because “additional funds [will] have been put at risk, recovery may be lower and questions will be asked as to why the administration made a bad investment, not just once … but twice.” His advice was ignored and the taxpayers lost an additional $168 million.

6. One of the chief investors in Solyndra was George Kaiser, a huge campaign fundraiser for President Obama.

7. George Kaiser has visited the White House 16 times including meetings with Obama’s key advisor Valerie Jarrett, the then chief White House economist Austin Goolsbee, and Obama’s chief of staff just prior to the loan’s approval.

8. In February the loan was restructured to put Kaiser and his co-investors ahead of taxpayers in line for any assets should the company go under. (For those of you who remember, this smacks of the Chrysler takeover in which the unions were put in line ahead of preferred bond investors who, according to all previous bankruptcy law, should have been first in line for any assets).

9. Peter Lynch, a New York-based solar energy analyst, spoke to ABC news about Solyndra’s business model: “It’s very difficult to perceive a company with a model that says, well, I can build something for six dollars and sell it for three dollars. Those numbers don’t generally work. You don’t want to lose three dollars for every unit you make.”

10. The investors planned to cash out all along by offering what they knew to be nearly worthless stock to the public and leaving taxpayers holding the half a billion dollar bag. At least they would get their money. According to the Wall Street Journal,“There was a perceived halo around the loan,” said an investor with knowledge of the company. “If we get the loan, then we can definitely go public and cash out.” Solyndra actually began the process of issuing stock (cashing out) in December 2009. When it became apparent that they could get no interest from real investors they canceled the offering in June 2010.

Draw your own conclusions folks but this is just beginning.

Report This Post to the Government – A Laughingstock Update

The laughing stock website, “Attackwatch.com,” mentioned in yesterday’s post is providing some great material for you comedians out there. The website asks Americans to sign up and report “falsehoods and fabrications” about President Obama. Of course, they plan to correct them with their “truth.” Here’s a sampling of tweets submitted to the tattletale website, courtesy of The American Spectator’s Ross Kaminsky:

From DrFreeLance: “I saw a werewolf drinkin a pina colada at Trader Vic’s, and his hair was perfect.”

From chuckdevore (Republican state legislator in California): “Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean a big majority of us isn’t out to get you…”

From EddieRobbins: “My neighbor removed his Obama bumper sticker. I think he’s a racist.”

From DickMeyers: “Bless me #AttackWatch for I have sinned. I have muttered naughty words about our Dear Leader 9 times & have doubted his divinity a few times

From joaniekensil: “Ate refried beans & chips for breakfast which is sort of racist foodist – Carbon emissions to follow.”

From PoliticalGravity: “Saw a kid with a lemonade stand and she didn’t have a permit.”

From thorninaz: “Hey #attackwatch, I saw 6 ATM’s in an alley, killing a Job. It looked like a hate crime!”

These were alll in a two minute monitoring of Twitter done by Mr. Kaminsky. If you happen to be on Twitter check it out for yourself. The overriding tone is ridicule.

There’s also this cartoon on “…ology: http://www.ology.com/politics/obama-administration-launches-online-thought-police-%E2%80%9Cattack-watch%E2%80%9D

As usual, the Obama machine reaps unintended consequences….an unforeseen epic fail.
